At The Den, we provide high-quality, nurturing childcare beyond the school day. Based at Ysgol Deiniol our afternoon nursery wrap-around give children a safe, stimulating, and fun environment to play, learn, and grow. We are looking for a Wrap-Around Care Manager to lead this provision — an organised, caring and driven professional with experience managing childcare settings, ensuring compliance with Welsh childcare minimum standards, and building strong relationships with families and school staff.
As Wrap-Around Care Manager, you will lead the daily operation and strategic development of The Den's wrap-around care provision You will work closely with the school leadership team and The Den management to deliver a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment for children aged 3-4
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, implement, and monitor a high-quality programme of play and learning activities for children, tailored to their age, stage, and interests.
- Lead and supervise staff, including recruitment, induction, rotas, ongoing training, staff supervisions and appraisals — ensuring sufficient staffing levels and compliance with child:adult ratios.
- Ensure the provision meets the National Minimum Standards for Regulated Childcare (Wales) and complies fully with Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW) registration requirements, including inspection readiness and continuous improvement.
- Lead on safeguarding and child protection, acting as Designated Safeguarding Person for the setting and maintaining up-to-date policies and records.
- Implement safer recruitment practices, ensuring all staff and volunteers hold valid DBS checks, references, and identity verification.
- Maintain accurate records as required by CIW, including attendance registers, accident and incident reports, medication logs, and staff training files.
- Oversee the health, safety, and welfare of children and staff: complete risk assessments, ensure first aid provision, food hygiene compliance, and appropriate security measures.
- Manage budget and resources efficiently — monitor income from fees, purchase materials, and contribute to sustainability targets and report to trustees.
- Promote inclusive practice, supporting children with additional needs and liaising with parents and the school SENCo as appropriate.
- Foster positive relationships with parents/carers, ensuring clear communication, managing bookings and enquiries, and encouraging feedback.
- Handle complaints and notifications in line with CIW and school procedures, maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
- Lead regular self-evaluation and quality assurance, implementing improvements in line with inspection feedback and best practice guidance.
- Ensure the environment, activities, and resources reflect the Welsh ethos and values of inclusion, well-being, and learning through play.
- Promote and market The Den and afterschool club through social media and other means
Person Specification
Essential
- Level 3 qualification (or higher) in CCPLD Childcare/Early Years
- Must have a DBS check and registered with CIW as the 'PIC Person in Charge'
- Demonstrable experience managing or supervising a childcare or after-school setting.
- Must hold Paediatric First Aid certification
- Proven understanding of the National Minimum Standards for Regulated Childcare (Wales) and CIW compliance requirements.
- Knowledge of safeguarding procedures, health & safety, and safer-recruitment processes.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills — able to manage records, rotas, and parent communication effectively.
- Creativity and enthusiasm for delivering engaging, age-appropriate activities.
- Ability to lead and motivate a team, fostering a positive, child-centred culture.
- Commitment to equality, inclusion, and promoting children's well-being.
Desirable
- Level 4/5 qualification (or working towards) in CCPLD childcare, management, or playwork.
- Experience working with children with additional learning needs.
- Experience managing budgets or income streams.
- Familiarity with Early Years Foundation Learning or Curriculum for Wales approaches to play-based learning.

Compliance and Safeguarding
