Do you work with children aged 5 years or under who live in Wales within an education / childcare setting?
Do you want to influence how young children with speech language and communication needs access early support?
Prosiect Pengwin are inviting practitioners to join their codesign panel
The Prosiect Pengwin research group is working on behalf of Welsh Government to develop tools and resources that will support health, education and childcare practitioners to identify and support speech, language and communication skills in the early years.
The first stage of the project involves creating questionnaires and activities for use by health and early years practitioners to monitor the development of children's speech, language and communication skills and identify when extra help is needed. The aim is to ensure that children who have or are at risk of speech and language disorders are identified and supported well before they reach school.
Prosiect Penguin are inviting people to attend three co-design workshops:
Workshop 1 (Nov-Dec 23)
Sharing experiences and co-designing early versions of the questionnaires and activities.
Workshop 2 (Jan-Feb 24)
Sharing experiences and co-designing practitioner guidance
Workshop 3 (Feb-March 24):
Making final changes to the questionnaires based on lessons learnt from testing them with families and practitioners (carried out by the research team early 2024)
Co-design workshops will be 1 ½ hours long and will be held online. During the workshops you will meet with one or two members of the research team and other panel members who work in a role similar to yourself to:
- Share any experiences you have of using screening tools and talking with parents about their child's development
- Contribute your ideas about what matters when creating tools and resources that are to be used with families
- Be invited to give your opinion on questions that parents would be asked as well as observations and activities intended to be carried out with children when working to support the development of speech, language and communication skills
You do not need any previous experience in being part of a co-design panel, just a willingness to attend meetings and to give your opinions as someone with experience of working with children and their families in the early years.
