Welsh Language in Play: Supporting Learning Through Fun & Exploration
This session explores how early years practitioners can embed Welsh language naturally into play-based learning. Play is a powerful way for children to develop communication, confidence, and creativity, and when combined with Welsh, it helps strengthen language acquisition and cultural connection from an early age.

- Embedding Welsh through playful learning
- Using everyday resources and activities to naturally introduce Welsh vocabulary.
- Incorporating songs, rhymes, storytelling, and imaginative play to encourage language use.
- Supporting curiosity and exploration
- Encouraging children to investigate, experiment, and problem-solve while using Welsh.
- Linking language learning to children's interests and play themes to make it meaningful.
- Building confidence in practitioners
- Practical tips to use Welsh confidently, even if you are still learning.
- Strategies to respond to children's language use positively and extend conversations.
- Interactive community of practice
- Facilitated by Matt Anthony, Welsh Language Project Lead.
