Latest figures show that in England and Wales only 3% of staff working in early years education are male; in Scotland it’s 4%. In more than three-quarters of early years settings, there is not a single male employee. This is not a phenomenon unique to the UK: it is global. The MITEY (Men In The Early Years) Guide to Recruiting Men into Early Years Education guide challenges the early years sector to take ‘positive action’ to bring more men into the workforce, to double their pool of talent and create a more representative workforce. MITEY is run by the Fatherhood Institute. It is a national network and campaign which works to bring more men into the early years education workforce, and support them once they are part of it. ...& as part of the Welsh Active Early Years project, we will also be running FREE Play to Learn Workshops introducing 'Active Baby and You'. This workshop will provide you with the skills and knowledge to enable you to cascade activities and health and well-being messages to the children in your care.
It will also provide you with information to support parents through 4-week multi-skills play based approach.

Early Years Wales is proud to support the Duchess of Cambridge & The Royal Foundation with the 5 Big Questions survey which launched this week. The aim of the survey is to bring together the thoughts of individuals, organisations and businesses so that we can build the healthiest generation in history by giving every child the best start in life. As part of her 24-hour UK tour to mark the launch, the Duchess visited a baby sensory class at the Ely and Caerau Children's Centre in Cardiff to hear about the support parents receive there. Early Years Wales – Freelance Facilitator & Co-Facilitator Positions
As part of the Welsh Active Early Years Project, a project funded by the Healthy and Active Fund, a partnership between Welsh Government, Sport Wales and Public Health Wales – we are currently recruiting for Freelance Facilitators and Co-Facilitators across Wales. The purpose of these roles is to deliver a face to face programme of physical literacy activities based on play to adults and young children aged 0-5 years followed by one-to-one group support to ensure that existing groups embed the ethos and activities into practice and new groups can be set up to be sustainable.
