We undertook this work to support our colleagues in sport, local authorities and parents when they are working with children aged 3-11.
As we know, play and playful learning are incredibly powerful for children in their early years. We contributed extensively to the framework itself, and related meetings to help the sport and physical activity sector to consider the needs of the youngest children participating in sport and physical activity.
The framework can be used by a wide range of stakeholders. It is there to challenge traditional approaches and ensure that children have age-appropriate and developmental experiences.
You are welcome to download the Framework below and to share this within your network, communities and to sport and physical activity providers and parents in your area.
"The Foundations Framework has been an incredibly interesting process. We worked with partners in sport, local authority physical activity teams, Sport Wales, University of Wales Trinity St David's, and Play Wales to help create the pathway for children to access playful activity in their first opportunities with sport and physical activity.
Our shared conversations focused on the importance of child-centred practice and allowing children the opportunity to develop through play. We look forward to sharing this framework throughout our networks and allowing parents, coaches, and community groups to reflect on their practice in promoting healthy physical activity for children in their formative years."
