The successful applicant will be employed to work as a support worker for a child with additional needs.
Salary: £9.50 per hour
Contract: Temporary position subject to funding.
The ideal candidate will have experience of working with young children and a qualification in childcare. Applicants with relevant experience but without a relevant qualification will be considered alongside the option to complete a childcare NVQ through the workplace.
Other mandatory training will also be required for this post.
Job Description
The overall policy and procedures of the group will be laid down by the management committee to whom the leader is responsible.
The 1:1 support assistant is firstly responsible to the leader and secondly to the committee. The 1:1 support assistant should support the leader in ensuring that there is a safe, caring and welcoming environment for children and their families.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Support for children
- Attend to the child/children’s personal needs, and implement related personal programmes, including social, health, physical, hygiene, first aid and welfare matters.
- Supervise and support child/children ensuring their safety and access to learning.
- Establish good relationships with the child/children, acting as a role model and being aware of and responding appropriately to individual needs
- Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all children.
- Encourage child/children to interact with others and engage in activities led by the Playgroup Leader
- Encourage child/children to act independently and provide feedback as appropriate
- Encourage child/children to behave in an appropriate way in line with established playgroup policy
- Encourage child/children to develop self-discipline, self-esteem and independence
- Assist with the implementation of individual plans for the child/ children e.g. Individual Communication Plans, Individual Play plans
Support for the Playleader
- Prepare playgroup as directed for sessions and clear afterwards and assist with the display of children’s work
- Be aware of child/children’s problems/progress/achievements and report to the Playgroup Leader as agreed
- Undertake child/children’s record keeping as requested
- Support the Playgroup Leader in managing child/children’s behaviour in line with established playgroup policy and encourage child/children to take responsibility for their own behaviour.
- Gather/report information from/to parents/carers as directed
- Support for the delivery of the the New Welsh Curriculum for Maintained Settings and /or Flying Start for pre-school children.
- Support child/children to understand instructions and undertake learning activities as directed by the Playgroup Leader
- Support child/children in using ICT in learning activities as directed
- Prepare, maintain and use equipment/resources as directed by the Playgroup Leader and other professionals e.g Speech and Language Therapist, Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist and assist children in their use
Support for the Playgroup
- Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person.
- Be aware of and support difference and ensure all children have equal access to opportunities to learn and develop.
- Contribute to the overall ethos/work/aims of the playgroup
- Appreciate and support the role of other professionals
- Attend relevant meetings as required
- Participate in training and other learning activities and performance development as required
- Accompany Playgroup staff and children on visits, trips and out of playgroup activities as required.

Hours of work:
7.5 hours per week (term time only) from 12.30-15.00 with a possibility of hours increasing over time.
