Job description: 

We are looking for committed, highly engaged practitioner to join our existing team in our Playgroup in Ysgol Swn y Don in Old Colwyn.

To work under the direct instruction of the Leader, in our School Playgroup . To support access to learning for children and provide general support to the leader in the management of children, the learning environment including preparation, and routine maintenance of resources/equipment.

Welsh speaker desirable.

It is essential that candidates hold a Level 3 Diploma in Childcare and Education, or equivalent, as listed on the Care Council for Wales childcare qualifications.

Wages to be discussed dependant on qualification and experience.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. SUPPORT FOR CHILDREN

  • Attend to the children’s personal needs, and implement related personal programmes, including social, health, physical, hygiene, and first aid and welfare matters
  • Supervise and support children ensuring their safety and access to learning.
  • Establish good relationships with children, acting as a role model and being aware of and responding appropriately to individual needs
  • Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all children
  • Encourage children to interact with others and engage in activities.
  • Encourage children to act independently as appropriate

2. SUPPORT FOR THE LEADER

  • Prepare the nursery as directed for activities and clear afterwards and assist with the display of children’s work.
  • Be aware of child problems/progress/achievements and report to the leader as agreed.
  • Undertake child record keeping as requested
  • Support the manager in managing child behaviour, reporting difficulties as appropriate
  • Gather/report information from/to parents/carers as directed
  • Provide clerical/admin support, e.g. photocopying, typing, filing, collecting money etc.

3. SUPPORT FOR THE CURRICULUM

  • Support children to engage meaningfully in play activities
  • Support children developing basic skills and independence
  • Prepare and maintain equipment/resources as directed by the manager and assist the children in their use
  • Help with assessments and observations for the Curriculum for Wales and Flying Start.

4. SUPPORT FOR THE SETTING

  • Be aware and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person
  • Be aware of and support difference and ensure all children have equal access to opportunities to learn and develop
  • Contribute to an overall vision and aims of the school
  • Appreciate and support the role of other professionals
  • Attend relevant meetings as required
  • Participate in training and other learning activities and performance development as required
  • Accompany staff and children on visits, trips and out of the setting activities as required
