Job description: 

Due to our current Supervisor looking to retire we are now looking for an enthusiastic, experienced playgroup supervisor to join our small, hardworking, friendly team. Our setting has been running for over 40 years in the Hawkesbury Community Centre and is dedicated to providing high quality daycare that enhances the development, care and education of pre-school children in a safe and stimulating environment, where they learn through play in partnership with parents. We also offer wraparound and a walking bus for the local primary school for nursery children. We are at present registered to take 19 children per session from the age of 2 and a half
years up to 5 years of age.

Employment will be offered on a permanent, part-time, term-time only contract with a probationary period of 3 months. Our setting is open each day from 9.00 am until 3.00 pm (with staff setting up from 8.30 am) but our opening hours each year are dependent on children numbers and government funding. We want someone who will help lead our team in the successful implementation of the new curriculum and to ensure the continued improvement of our setting. We offer parents Early Entitlement Education and are registered to receive the Childcare Offer funding.

You must be enthusiastic to work with children in a caring, understanding way, happy to get messy and work outside whatever the weather!

Overall Responsibility

  • To take responsibility of the day to day running of the setting, providing high quality education and childcare; ensuring that it is a safe, secure, and nurturing environment for children to learn and develop.
  • Lead the planning process and be responsible for uploading observations onto Seesaw.
  • To ensure records are properly maintained, such as: daily attendance register, accident & incident report books.
  • To read and be familiar with the Playgroup’s policies and the statutory requirements for full day care.
  • Liaise with other staff and committee on children’s needs and progress development if necessary.
  • To work as a team and be able to take leadership being responsible for staff and children.
  • Have good communication skills and be able to build good working relationships with parents/carers.
  • To fulfil legal and statutory requirements, contribute to and implement Playgroup policies; in addition to acting as a key worker for a group of children and communicating progress on a regular basis with their parents.

Main Duties/Qualifications

  • You will need to have a minimum of a Level 3 Childcare qualification, and ideally have up to date*Safeguarding, *Emergency Paediatric First Aid and *Food Hygiene certificates - *training courses will be provided if required.
  • To be able to manage and lead a team.
  • Able to deal with all necessary reports relating to child development and Early Entitlement Education.
  • To work closely with the children, other members of staff and parents
  • To be able to provide and facilitate safe, creative play. Offer appropriate stimulation and support
  • to the children.
  • To take time to listen and respond to children, encourage participation and support them in their development.
  • We are a pack away playgroup so you must be fit and able to deal with some lifting of equipment when setting out and packing away each day.
  • To liaise with the CIW, Early Years Wales, Early Entitlement, social services and other professionals as necessary and ensure that all legal and statutory requirements are implemented.
  • To ensure that the Playgroup is a safe environment for children, that equipment is safe, standards of hygiene are high, and safety procedures are implemented at all times.
  • To ensure there is a good, happy and positive atmosphere at all sessions.
  • To maintain equality of opportunity for all children within the playgroup
  • To be the key person for the children at the playgroup, to be responsible for those children and to ensure that their progress is regularly observed and effectively assessed. You will be expected to celebrate the child’s achievements with their parents/carers and work together with them to provide appropriately for their child’s wellbeing, enabling them to make progress.
  • To communicate with parents/carers, informing them about the playgroup and its curriculum, exchanging information about their child’s progress and encouraging parental involvement.
  • To follow guidelines and procedures for child protection as recommended by the registering authority; report any accidents or incidents.
  • To change the nappies of smaller children, if required.
  • To lead with the drawing up of daily, weekly and monthly programmes of activities and events in accordance with desirable learning outcomes, as defined by the
  • New Curriculum for Wales and to monitor the effectiveness of the pre-school learning environment.
  • To contribute too, suggest changes and implement all playgroup policies and procedures.
  • To attend staff meetings and planning sessions as required.
  • To maintain documentation in accordance with Data Protection Act.
  • To keep confidential any information regarding children, their families or other staff members.
  • To undertake essential training courses and practical training as required.
