Job description:
The successful applicant will be expected to work as part of the Playgroup team, to support the playgroup manager in providing safe, high-quality education and care for children aged 2 to 4 years old, whilst fulfilling all legal and statutory requirements and contributing to and implementing playgroup policies.
Applicants are required to be qualified to a childcare qualification of level 3. A Level 2 successful applicant will be required to undertake level 3.
Salary: £9.50 per hour
Job Description
The overall policy and procedures of the group will be laid down by the management committee to whom the leader is responsible.
The assistant is firstly responsible to the leader and secondly to the committee.
The assistant should support the leader in ensuring that there is a safe, caring and welcoming environment for children and their families. In order to achieve this, the assistant will:
- Help ensure that the playroom is appropriately laid out before the session commences and is tidied up after the session ends. The Assistant also helps to ensure good standards of hygiene are followed and that equipment is safe and regularly checked as recommended.
- Attend and participate in all staff meetings and assist in the planning and preparation of the activities offered throughout the session.
- Carry our regular observations and make an assessment of key child’s needs within the group following the policies and procedures of the setting.
- Help provide and take part in all the group’s activities.
- Take part in special events and group outings.
- Encourage parental involvement.
- Listen to, encourage, enable, stimulate and ensure the safe keeping of the children.
- Attend relevant evening meetings and courses as directed by the leader or committee. Course fees may be considered by the management for approved training.
- Advise the leader of any matter requiring attention. E.g.: concerns about a child, or equipment needing repaired/replaced.
- Keep strictly confidential any personal information regarding the children, their families or other staff which is learnt as part of the job. Such information must not be passed on unless it is in the interest of a child. The assistant will then approach the leader with the information. Only if she/he feels the leader is not taking adequate action should the assistant take the matter further - e.g. to committee chair, and/or EARLY YEARS adviser etc

Hours of work:
Our setting runs EVERY AFTERNOON during school term time only. The post is for 15 hours per week, working during school term time only. Holidays must be taken during school holiday time.
