Role Description - Preschool room nursery practitioner
Accountable to: Room Leader and Nursery Managers
Wages : Minimum wage relevant to age
Purpose of the Job
- To work as part of the setting team, support the manager in providing safe, high-quality education and care for children aged between (0-5 years).
- To fulfil legal and statutory requirements, contribute to and implement provisions policies; in addition to acting as a key worker for a group of children and communicating progress on a regular basis with their parents/carers.
Main Duties
- To ensure that the setting is a safe environment for children, that equipment is safe, standards of hygiene are high, and safety procedures are implemented at all times.
- To lead on setting activities and offer appropriate stimulation and support to the children.
- To work closely with the children, other members of staff and parents.
- To help ensure there is a good, happy, and positive atmosphere at all times. Take time to listen and respond to children, encourage participation, and support them in their development.
- To maintain equality of opportunity for all children within the provision.
The Children:
- To be the key person for a group of children in the provision, to be responsible for those children and to ensure that their progress is regularly observed and effectively assessed.
- You will be expected to celebrate the child’s achievements with their parents/carers and work together with them to provide appropriately for their child’s well-being, enabling them to make progress.
- To communicate with parents/carers, informing them about the provision and its curriculum, exchanging information about their child’s progress and encouraging parental involvement.
- To follow guidelines and procedures for child protection as recommended by the Wales Safeguarding procedures; report any accidents or incidents to the person in charge.
- To change the nappies and assist with toileting for children.
Records
- To ensure relevant records are properly maintained.
- To read and be familiar with the provision’s policies and the statutory requirements.
- To contribute to, suggest changes and implement all the provision’s policies and procedures.
- To attend staff meetings and planning sessions as required.
- To maintain documentation in accordance with GDPR.
- To keep confidential any information regarding children, their families, or other staff members.

- Ability to communicate effectively with a wide of individuals and organisations including parents.

Desirable: ·
- IT literate.
- Current First Aid Certificate, as required by CIW’s minimum standards.
- Ability to incorporate Welsh into everyday activities.
Training:
- To undertake training courses and practical training as required.
