Job description: 

Purpose of post

  • To contribute a high standard of physical, emotional, social and intellectual care for children placed in the nursery.
  • To give support to other personnel within the nursery.
  • To implement the daily routine.

Duties and responsibilities

  1. To contribute to a programme of activities suitable to the age range of children, working closely with colleagues in developing the use of the Welsh language and ensuring that this is the primary language used in the environment.
  2. Work alongside parents of additional needs children to give full integration in the nursery.
  3. Support all staff and engage in good team working.
  4. Where possible, to attend out of working hours’ activities, e.g. training, monthly staff meetings, parents’ evenings, summer fayre, Christmas party, etc.
  5. To be flexible within working practices of the nursery.  Be prepared to help where needed, including to undertake certain domestic jobs within the nursery, e.g. preparation of snack meals, cleansing of equipment etc.
  6. Look upon the nursery as a "whole" where can you help be most utilised, be constantly aware of the needs of children.
  7. To respect the confidentiality of information received.
  8. To develop your role within the team
  9. The preparation and completion of activities to suit the child's stage of development.
  10. Washing and changing children as required.
  11. Adhering to the cleaning schedule and ensuring the environment is cleaned to a high standard, reporting any issues immediately.
  12. To ensure the provision of a high-quality environment to meet the needs of individual children from differing cultures and religious backgrounds, and stages of development.
  13. To be aware of the high profile of the nursery and to uphold their standards at all times.

 

 

Education & Qualifications

A minimum Level 2 qualification under the ACCAC? framework. Social Care Wales Qualification Framework

DBS Check, Paediatric First Aid, Food Hygiene Certificate. ADD Safeguarding/Child Protection

Fluent Welsh speaker (consideration would be given to an active learner.)

A willingness to undertake ongoing training, with continuous professional development and gain new skills and knowledge.

 

Experience/ Knowledge

A minimum of 6 months’ recent experience, working in a Preschool/Nursery setting.

Good working knowledge of the Foundation Phase and current Estyn/CIW standards.

Familiar with the aspects of play and learning within the foundation phase.

Proven practical experience of implementing stimulating quality learning opportunities.
