Active Baby

The Active Baby two-hour training is aimed at professionals working with the youngest of our children.

Baby in plank pose

Active Baby at Home focuses on the movement and well-being of children from 0 – 18 months looking at development and ways in which we can support and nurture not only the babies in our care, but also the physical activity and well-being of the adults who care for and educate them.

The training will provide practitioners with opportunities for reflection and an opportunity to add to their knowledge, skills, and attitude towards the opportunities that adults in early years setting provide. The course examines, in depth, the physical development and physical literacy of babies and young children by supporting analysis of why movement and physical activity matter with reference to elements that babies, and young children need to create a secure sense of themselves in their bodies, in their own unique relationships to the environment to the significant adults, and materials within the environment.

The session plans for spontaneous and guided movement play experiences inside and outdoors that support babies and young children's unique movement patterns and their unique neurophysiological development. Within all these areas, practitioners will be invited to reflect on their own movement, the movement aspirations they have for the babies and young children in their care and will have opportunities to develop confidence in facilitating babies and young children's movement play. Following the course practitioners will receive an Active Baby resource pack that will support movement play experiences for children 0 – 18 months.

Topics include:

  • Nurturing physical development
  • Physical activity guidelines
  • Floor play (tummy, side, and back play)
  • Body and movement fascinations
  • The senses
  • Crossing the midlines
  • Movement talks

From the training I have taken away: Development of the Vestibular, pro-preceptive and inter-receptive systems. How we can support babies in their development to become physically literate later in life
