Location: Busy Bods at Ysgol Bodfari

The Trustees of Busy Bods at Ysgol Bodfari are seeking to appoint a Childcare Assistant to provide support supervising children in playgroup. There will be the possibility of additional hours to work in the after-school and Holiday clubs on a supply basis.

The successful candidate will work as part of a team to provide quality play and learning opportunities, helping children and young people to develop.

Please note the successful candidate will be directly employed by Busy Bods at Ysgol Bodfari and not Ysgol Bodfari/Denbighshire County Council.

Job Purpose:

  • To assist in the delivery and development of childcare provision at Ysgol Bodfari, including Playgroup, After School and Holiday care.
  • To be responsible and care for the children within our setting, expanding their development through play and learning.
  • To work within all age ranges of 2-12 years.
  • To work under the supervision of the Childcare Supervisor at Busy Bods at Ysgol Bodfari (Playgroup, After-School and Holiday Care) in the absence of the Childcare Leader and the Responsible Individual (Headteacher of Ysgol Bodfari).
  • To provide quality play and learning opportunities for children and young people in our setting to develop physically, mentally and socially.
  • To work as part of a team sharing workloads and responsibilities.
  • To liaise with the Childcare Leader, Childcare Supervisor and Registered Person on a regular basis, sharing information regarding any aspect of the delivery and helping to plan programmes of activities.
  • Assist in preparing the resources and activities.
  • To treat each child with equal warmth and respect, ensuring every child is listened to and their opinions valued.
  • Work within the Early Education and Foundation Phase Framework ensuring each child is an individual and set targets and goals both personally and developmentally for each child
  • Act as a key-worker for some children within your care, ensuring communication with parents is of high importance
  • Update children’s records and diaries which will be shared with the parents
  • Be responsible for administrating First Aid if needed and filling in the relevant paperwork
  • To work in accordance with Denbighshire County Council and Wales Safeguarding procedures.
  • Maintain documentation in accordance with the Data Protection Act 2018/General Data Protection Regulation 2018.
  • Keep confidential any information regarding children, their families or other staff.
  • To work in accordance with health and safety guidelines, including Covid-19 measures as instructed during training.
  • To report all accidents and incidents on site.
  • Supervise the children at all times, ensuring that all policies and procedures are adhered to.
  • Provide healthy breakfast, snacks, meals and drinks to the children
  • To engage with members of the community and promote Ysgol Bodfari in the wider community.
  • To undertake any other duties as required. Knowledge, Skills, Training and Experience
  • The post holder will be educated to at least QCF Level 2 Diploma /NVQ level 2 in Children’s Care, Learning and Development (or equivalent in a childcare discipline) with experience of working within a childcare setting.
  • The post holder will have acquired or be working towards the Level 2 Play Worker Qualification.
  • Additional qualifications in First Aid, Food Hygiene and Child Protection would be desirable
  • The post holder will be able to demonstrate an experience of childcare provision and an understanding of the issues involved.
  • Experience of working with children with additional needs, such as speech and language is desirable.
  • The post holder must possess well developed, all round oral and written communication skills and being a team member is essential.
  • The post holder must enjoy working with children, seeing them as individuals and have experience of helping children learn and develop
  • The post holder will respect and maintain confidentiality at all times
  • The ability to speak Welsh is desirable.

The post requires a DBS certificate in line with the definition of a regulated activity.
