Job description: 

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Senior Play Worker/Person in Charge to join our team at our small friendly school in the picturesque village of Nannerch. Nannerch VC is a small rural church school in the heart of the village catering for children from age 3-11.

As Senior Play Worker, your job purpose will be:

  • To develop and maintain an enriched, effective, flexible, and stimulating play environment.
  • To oversee planning for children and young people’s play
  • To oversee effective risk benefit management systems
  • To ensure compliance with the daycare regulations, with regard to the National Minimum Standards for Regulated Childcare.

Main duties:

  • Ensure an enriched, effective, flexible, and stimulating play environment in which children are able to play freely is provided.
  • Co-ordinate and ensure collection of children from classrooms.
  • Oversee planning and preparation of play including activities, preparation of environment and resources which meet their individual play needs.
  • Build effective and honest relationships with children and young people and their parents/carers.
  • Making links with the wider community in order to provide a range of opportunities for children and young people and to support the understanding of children’s right to play.
  • Follow guidelines and procedures for Safeguarding
  • Follow and review Club policies and procedures including safeguarding, health and safety, behaviour, emergency procedures and confidentiality.
  • Administer First Aid as appropriate.
  • Ensure collection of children and young people by parent/carers working inline with collection policy and procedures.
  • Ensure a range of suitable food and drink options are provided in line with policies and procedures.
  • Carry out day-to-day administration, record keeping, ordering, and purchasing materials and equipment.
  • Maintain appropriate records, registers, and reports to ensure legal and regulatory requirements are met.
  • Be responsible for the day-to-day financial administration of the Club.
  • Be responsible for the collection and secure handling of fees.
  • Organise and conduct various fundraising activities as directed by the committee.

Essential to the role:

  • Level 3 Playworker qualification
  • A valid, enhanced DBS check (we will organise this for you).
  • Safeguarding training or willing to undergo safeguarding training.
  • Experience of working with school aged children aged 4-11.
  • Experience of supervising staff or volunteers.
  • Knowledge of legislation relevant to the provision of Childcare for school age children.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of individuals and organisations using a variety of different methods, verbal, non-verbal, electronic, written, etc.
  • Ability to maintain systems and records for the effective administration and financial management of the provision.
  • Knowledge of the United Nation Convention on the Rights of the Child
  • An understanding and commitment to equal opportunities.
  • An understanding of play and child development and the ability to meet children’s individual needs and a willingness to undertake and refresh training.
  • Demonstrate a wide range of practical Play work skills.

Hours of work: 

The hours are 3pm – 5.30pm Monday to Friday as well as one additional hour a week for preparation (14.75 hours a week) during term time.  It is a part-time, permanent role and the salary is £12 an hour.  If you are motivated, have a passion for working with children and promoting their development, we would love to hear from you.
