Early Years Wales know that introducing an anti-racist journey for babies and young children at the earliest opportunity is very important; how this is delivered needs to be addressed in a different way to how older children are often introduced to cultures and customs that children may not have been exposed to yet.

Taking our time to talk to the early years sector about their needs, we have developed two training modules and eight sets of resources. These will support managers and leaders in the 0–4 space to look at this journey through the eyes of a child. The resources have been developed to promote reflective practice and support all staff on their anti-racist journey.

It is crucial that we introduce these discussions and positive learning environments as early as possible and that children are in an environment that embrace an anti-racist approach that has a direct impact on the opinions they will form throughout life.

This course is delivered as two, 90-minute online sessions. Practitioners will be provided with a digital reflective journal and an expectation to complete this as part of the course. There will also be some research prior to the course and a gap task between week 1 & 2.

Learning Outcomes
  • To understand the positive impact for all children through promoting anti-racist practice in early years.
  • To begin to understand why anti-racist practice needs to be embedded in the early years.
  • To begin your journey towards becoming anti-racist practitioners and leaders.
  • To develop an anti-racist approach in the setting, through the sharing of knowledge to their staff team using the resources provided.

*Learners are required to attend both sessions to complete the training
