Centering play in principled approaches for inclusion

This webinar will support the early years educator to reflect on their knowledge, values and beliefs surrounding an inclusive approach and how adaptations in teaching practices can foster a strong sense of self, sense of belonging and sense of wellbeing for the diverse learner.

Sharon is Reader (Associate Professor) in inclusive early childhood education at Bath Spa University, a Trustee on Froebel Trust Council, Vice Chair on the Executive for Early Childhood Studies Degrees Network (ECSDN) and an associate trainer for Early Education.

Sharon has a diverse career background, initially working as a policy manager in DWP, owner/operator of a private day setting and more recently working as project assistant for the development of Birth to Five Matters non-statutory guidance in England. Sharon is a member of the advisory panel for the development of the new children's gallery at the National History Museum.

Reflecting on her own story and being guided by her doctoral research the webinar will support educators across all disciplines in early childhood to further develop awareness and understanding about how play can act as a vehicle for reflection on participatory pedagogy and practice. She will reflect on how the environment can be an ideal space in which to value and validate children's diverse ethnic backgrounds and how culturally appropriate resources can facilitate rich conversations about a positive sense of self and other with young children.
